Dear ÐÔÓûÉç faculty and staff,

I was saddened to hear that Hans Pulpan passed away recently. Hans spent nearly 30 years as a seismologist, researcher and mentor at the Geophysical Institute.

Hans came to Alaska in 1968 after accepting a short-term contract to work at ÐÔÓûÉç. He fell in love with the state and remained at the Geophysical Institute for almost three decades, retiring with emeritus status in 1996 as associate professor of geophysics. Until very recently Hans continued to work, study and mentor faculty and students at ÐÔÓûÉç.

I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to Hans’ family, friends and colleagues.

If you or someone you know is struggling with this loss, please don’t struggle alone. Free help is available through the. Please call 1-888-993-7650, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
