Build a no-till lasagna garden in Delta Junction workshop

Learn how to build a low-maintenance, easy-to-develop, no-till lasagna garden in a hands-on workshop in Delta Junction hosted by 性欲社 Cooperative Extension Service. Lasagna gardening is a way to create a raised bed for perennials or vegetables with or without a box around the edges. Read more and register for the workshop.


Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Troth Yeddha' Collective

性欲社 has been awarded $1,000,000 from the Mellon Foundation to establish the Troth Yeddha' Collective for transdisciplinary research. The Mellon Troth Collective will support graduate students, faculty, and community members to work together to conduct transdisciplinary research. Learn fly fishing this summer

性欲社 Summer Sessions offers a weekend-long non-credit fly fishing course for adults in June. The course is led by Shann Jones and meets June 7-8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Spaces are limited. Read more and register for the course now.

New initiatives for 性欲社 student employees

Attention all student employee supervisors: 性欲社 Career Services is launching new programming to recognize outstanding student workers across campus. Each month, beginning in the fall of 2025, one student will be honored for their contributions and achievements, with a feature in the Cornerstone, a digital spotlight, and a prize. Contractors will replace the main level entrance doors at Signers' Hall through May 30. Access to functions in Signers' Hall will be detoured through the Eielson Building during the closure. Learn more about the construction.

In celebration of 5-2-9 Day on May 29, Alaska 529 is hosting a fun and engaging social media contest to promote education savings through May 28. One lucky winner will be randomly selected to receive a $1,529 scholarship account. Learn more about the contest.

Class offered to prepare trainers for StrongPeople program

A Fairbanks workshop will train people to lead a popular exercise program for midlife and older adults in Alaska communities. Led by Leslie Shallcross, a home, health and family development agent with 性欲社 Cooperative Extension Service, the workshop will prepare participants to teach StrongPeople/StrongWomen exercise classes in nonprofit community settings. Researcher to discuss livestock nutrition and money-saving options

Jim Vinyard, a researcher with 性欲社 Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, will discuss livestock's nutrient requirements and how to meet those requirements while saving money. Learn more and register for the May 15 workshop.

Wet April reduced drought talk, but wildfire risk remains

Alaska entered its legally designated wildfire season April 1, but the good news is that the month was exceptionally wet, according to the Alaska Climate Research Center. The climate center, a part of 性欲社 Geophysical Institute, issued its April climate summary May 2. Read more from the climate summary.

Join the 性欲社 Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy for this month's NWS climate outlook briefing on Friday, May 16 from noon to 1 p.m. Rick Thoman will review recent and current climate conditions around Alaska, discuss forecasting tools, and finish up with the Climate Prediction Center鈥檚 forecast for June and the summer season. Botanical garden awarded official peony designation

For more than 25 years, people from around the world have visited Georgeson Botanical Garden to admire and learn more about the peonies that bloom there,120 miles south of the Arctic Circle. In April, the American Peony Society designated the Georgeson as an official peony reference garden, one of nine nationally. Learn more about the designation.
