Week’s events: Mike Thomas, chronic pain, urban muskoxen, alt-bluegrass

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here’s what’s happening during the week of July 7-13:

• On Monday, July 7, the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview series will honor Mike Thomas. As a member of the Fairbanks Curling Lions club, Thomas helped create the New Year’s Eve Sparktacular celebration in 1989 and has supported the event every year since. The interview is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
• On Tuesday, July 8, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Chris Gay, interventional pain management physician, discussing “Modern Approaches to Chronic Pain.” The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
• On Wednesday, July 9, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Claudia Ihl, associate professor of biology, discussing “When the Muskox Comes to Town: Urban Muskoxen in Nome.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
• On Thursday, July 10, the Music in the Garden concert series will showcase Dejavou at 6 p.m. and the Sourdough Rizers at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the ������ Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
