2025 Commencement Program

Land acknowledgment

We acknowledge the Alaska Native nations upon whose ancestral lands our campuses reside.
In Fairbanks, our Troth Yeddha鈥 Campus is located on the ancestral lands
of the Dena people of the lower Tanana River.

Tradition and Renewal

For untold generations, the Tanana River valley鈥檚 Dena people visited Troth Yeddha鈥, the Fairbanks campus ridge, to pick nearby wild potatoes. It was a meeting place and a place of sustenance, and it is still a place where people work together and find intellectual nourishment.

性欲社 is proud of the students who have continued this tradition of collaboration and learning. Commencement is a special time for graduates and their families and friends who share this momentous occasion. These ceremonies represent an ending, a time of reward for academic endeavor. In another sense it is truly a commencement, a beginning, for the learning process is an unending one, to which the years of formal schooling are only a prelude.

Along with our graduates, 性欲社 acknowledges with pride the contributions of those who will receive honorary degrees or meritorious service awards. The university also expresses gratitude to the dedicated faculty and staff who are retiring this year. Each has made a distinct contribution to the quality and reputation of this institution.

In today鈥檚 103rd commencement ceremonies, more than 1,100 graduates will be recognized for their success.

We honor you, the Class of 2025, for your achievement today.

Congratulations!

Dear Graduates,

Congratulations, Class of 2025! Today marks the start of an exciting
new journey. Yay!

You may have encountered me walking around campus. And if you did, you might have heard me say, 鈥淭hanks for choosing 性欲社.鈥 I do that because it was you who one day made that decision to trust your college education to 性欲社. That may have been the most impactful decision of your life thus far. You chose wisely!

But today is a reminder of the many times you chose 性欲社 since that first day 鈥 because I know there have been some days you had hard choices to make and chose your education at 性欲社 anew. All the days when the beautiful weather seemed too good to pass up, you chose 性欲社 and studied for the exam instead of hitting the ski slopes. Or when the days were stormy and cold and you mustered the strength to choose 性欲社 and got to class. And the days when there was a tough test, a big project, or three finals in one day, you collected your courage, received the gift of support from a family member, or leaned hard on a teammate. It was then that you (and they) chose 性欲社 once more. In doing so, you chose 性欲社, but you also chose you.

On behalf of 性欲社, I sincerely congratulate you and extend my best
wishes for your future success. Thanks for choosing 性欲社!

The Alaska Flag Song

Music by Elinor Dusenbury
Words by Marie Drake and Carol Beery Davis

Eight stars of gold on a field of blue,
Alaska鈥檚 flag, may it mean to you;
The blue of the sea, the ev鈥檔ing sky,
The mountain lakes, and the flow鈥檙s nearby;
The gold of the early sourdough鈥檚 dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams;
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The 鈥淏ear,鈥 the 鈥淒ipper,鈥 and shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
O鈥檈r land and sea a beacon bright,
Alaska鈥檚 flag to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.

A Native lad chose our Dipper鈥檚 stars
for Alaska鈥檚 flag that there be no bars
among our cultures. Be it known
through years our Natives鈥 past has grown
to share our treasures, hand in hand,
to keep Alaska our Great Land.
We love the northern midnight sky,
our mountains, lakes and the streams nearby;
Our great North Star with its steady light
will guide our cultures clear and bright
with Nature鈥檚 flag to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.
